“GRANDEUR OF SUMMER” IS GALERIE FRANCESCA’S SPECIAL EXHIBIT FOR THE SEASON
60 paintings from 20 of the country’s leading artists have been put together by Galerie Francesca for a special tribute to summer. Titled “Grandeur of Summer” the show runs from Friday, March 28 to April 10, 2008.
According to Susanne Tiausas, Chief Operations Officer of Galerie Francesca, “it has been very exciting for us to contact various artists and collectors to come up with a thematic show in honor of one of the most important seasons of the year. “Many artists have been telling us that summer is very inspirational to them” she adds, saying that the season has been “very encouraging for artists to paint lush blooms, warmly colored landscapes, cascading waters from rivers, or even capturing many of the folk fiestas that we have all come to know summer by”.
According to Tiausas, “The paintings were put together either from the artists directly, or in cases where the artists’ works have become quite rare, we were able to find some works from collectors who were interested in the thematic concept of the show”. Included in “Grandeur of Summer” are works of Juvenal Sanso, Federico Aguilar Alcuaz, Mario Parial, Lydia Velasco, Carlo Magno, Dominic Rubio, Vincent de Pio, Aileen Lanuza, Karina Baluyut and Michael Cacnio.”
Included in the exhibit is a major work of Sanso titled “Spring Concierto” Lydia Velasco’s 4” x 7” piece “Las Mujeres Bonita” which shows several women at a flower harvest, Jovan Benito’s “Flores de Mayo”, Lito Dayono’s warm and glowing colorful world, completely of the artist’s own creation, Carlo Magno’s summer inspired abstract paintings, Aljo Pingol’s “Mabutihing Lingkod” and “Fisherman’s Prayer”, Odette Cagandahan’s “Rice Bowls”, Karina Baluyut’s abstract landscapes inspired by her frequent sojourns to the various beaches in Southern Philippines, Cris Mirang’s lush blooms and Mike Herrera’s watercolors.
Now on its fourth year, Galerie Francesca is one of the country’s premiere contemporary art galleries, catering to clientele in the southern part of Metro Manila. It has built a name for itself, carrying a wide range of some of the country’s masters as well as young contemporary artists.
